Representative Alicea
Says State Grants Totaling $25,910 Will Go to
Nonprofit Cultural Groups in the District
Representative Geraldo Alicea (D-Charlton) announced today that grants totaling $25,910 have been awarded to cultural organizations in his district by the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). Representative Alicea said that these grants support a variety of cultural activities that benefit local residents. The announcement was made as part of a statewide funding program by the
MCC.
Local recipients awarded grants include the Charlton Cultural Council ($4,000), the East Brookfield Cultural Council ($4,000), the Oxford Cultural Council ($4,930), the Southbridge Cultural Council ($8,370) and the Spencer Cultural Council ($4,610). This funding was made available through MCC’s Local Cultural Council Program, a grassroots network that provides funding to Massachusetts cities and towns through 329 LCCs and 2,500 volunteer members. The local councils support
community- based projects that explore local arts and history, expand education and accessibility, and celebrate diversity.
“The Local Cultural Councils of the 6th Worcester district play such an important role in enriching our community through art and culture. I am thrilled that all of the LCC’s from my district received this funding so that they may continue to provide our communities with rich cultural experiences and opportunities” said Representative Alicea.
The Massachusetts Cultural Council is a state agency that promotes excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and sciences, in order to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities. The MCC is committed to creating a central place for the arts, sciences and humanities in the everyday lives of communities across the Commonwealth. The Council pursues this mission through a combination of grants, services, and advocacy for nonprofit cultural organizations, schools, communities, and artists.
