Rep. Geraldo Alicea Named Legislator of the Year by Victims’ Advocacy Group

Representative Geraldo Alicea (D-Charlton) has been named legislator of the year by the Massachusetts Office of Victims’ Assistance (MOVA).

MOVA has chosen to honor Rep. Alicea for his longstanding commitment to victims’ advocacy, both in the legislature and prior to his service as an elected official, as a victim advocate for ten years with the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. Alicea has spent his first year in the legislature working for victims’ rights, advocating for the Victims’ Bill of Rights and legislation protecting students and individuals with mental disabilities from sexual assault by teachers and caregivers.

“The obligation of any legislator is to protect those he serves,” said Rep. Alicea, “I’m honored that MOVA has acknowledged my efforts to advocate for victims in the Commonwealth.”

MOVA is an independent state organization committed to providing assistance and advocacy for crime victims. Rep. Alicea will be honored by the organization at a ceremony at the State House on April 30th.
