Representative Alicea Cosponsors Bill Expanding Spouses’ access to Veteran License Plates
Representative Geraldo Alicea (D-Charlton) recently announced that he has signed on as a lead sponsor of legislation that expands spouses’ access to veteran’s license plates. This legislation would allow the reinstatement of veteran’s plates to spouses of deceased veterans, who were previously required to turn in their veteran plates. Although veterans’ spouses are no longer required to turn in their plates, a large group of veterans’ spouses were stripped of their plates under a previous policy, and this legislation would fill that gap.
“Veterans and their families have made great personal sacrifices for this nation,” said Representative Alicea. “This bill makes it clear that the state’s support for these families continues after the death of the veteran.”
The legislation would also allow surviving spouses who have never remarried to apply for veteran’s license plates, even if the veteran never had the plate.
Spouses of veterans would be issued a commemorative decal indicating they are a spouse of a veteran.
