Rep. Geraldo Alicea (D-Charlton) recently announced his support for House Bill 451 An Act to Ensure Educator Excellence. The legislation, which is cosponsored by over 100 House and Senate members and has widespread support from the business and education communities, works to increase workforce excellence in teaching and leadership in all schools. 

“I strongly support this education legislation, which will allow for better retention of beginning legislators, incentives for hard to staff positions and additional improvements to supervision and evaluation of beginning teachers,” state Rep. Alicea. “These initiatives are important steps to continuing to increase the quality of education students in the 6th Worcester District have access too.” 

The legislation seeks to increase the effectiveness of training and mentorship for new teachers. Research shows that teacher and administrator expertise is the most significant variable in student achievement.
