| Geraldo Alicea has dedicated himself to serving all of the people of our communities and being the best possible Representative to the 6th Worcester district. He has worked closely with his elected colleagues and with local area leaders to deliver real results to our district.
Registry of Motor Vehicles
He led the charge to return the Registry of Motor
Vehicles to Southbridge and worked closely with the Lt. Governor and local leaders to find a sound resolution to the issue.
He organized two public hearings at the Southbridge Town Hall so that the community would have a chance to voice their concerns and opinions.
Education Reform
As a member of the Joint Committee on Education, he played a pivotal role in crafting the Education Reform Bill—the state’s largest and most comprehensive piece of education reform legislation since 1993. The legislation will reform the state’s education system by implementing new strategies to help improve underperforming schools and close the widening achievement gap.
He also played a leadership role in passing the nation’s most comprehensive anti-bullying law.
Public Safety
He filed a bill prohibiting all junior operators from using any type of cell phone or text messaging device while driving. The language was included in “An Act Relative to Safe Driving” which was signed into law this year.
He authored the new law that prohibits the sale or manufacture of “novelty lighters” in the Commonwealth. Working closely with local firefighters, this law will prohibit the lighters that have been the cause of many dangerous and often deadly fires throughout our state.
Westfield State College
He fought for funding for Westfield State College to expand its Law Enforcement/Homeland Security Training Center in Southbridge.
The funding will enable the college to build a state-of-the-art laboratory and educational facility which will provide comprehensive law enforcement training. The project is estimated to create 80 to 100 local jobs.
